Ten-pin bowling is a type of bowling in which a bowler rolls a bowling ball down a wood or synthetic lane toward ten pins positioned in a tetractys (equilateral triangle-based pattern) at the far end of the lane. The objective is to knock down all ten pins on the first roll of the ball (a strike), or failing that, on the second roll (a spare).
Behind a foul line is an approach approximately 15 feet (5 m) long used to impart speed and apply rotation to the ball. A 41.5-inch-wide (105 cm), 60-foot-long (18 m) lane is bordered along its length by gutters (channels) that collect errant balls. The lane's narrow shape prevents straight-line ball paths from achieving an angle optimally desired to achieve strikes; accordingly, advanced bowlers impart side rotation to hook (curve) the ball into the pins.

Early bird rates are valid until 31st July 2019.
- Ten Pin Bowling Event held Bowlevard (Bowl and Social) Skycity Hamilton will commence at 7.30am and finish by 11am on both Saturday and Sunday. This is due to the venue being primarily an entertainment centre and they are unable to close the centre entirely to the public. Coming in early will enable the bulk of the games to be completely in a timely manner.
- Players are advised the lanes are not competition grade and uses “string setter” machines to reset the pins, which does create some interesting pin falls from time to time.
- While this is a competition, competitors will need to come with an open mind to enjoy the fellowship of the Pistang Pilipino event and be willing to participate in a bowling experience that is less likely to be your usual skilled games played on high quality and competition grade lanes. With an open mind PP2019 can guarantee it will be fun and full of surprises!
